I have a double mutation on AOC1 gene which makes diamine oxidase. Yet I am lucky, usually only get triggered w migraine from wine. Play with dosage. To enjoy a nice glass of red wine with no headache at all, zero, I need 3 capsules and wait 10 minutes before start the wine. But it works. No doubt about that. 23andme can tell you if you have this defect. Lots of people with migraine do.

Recently I learned I may be histamine intolerant and may have been for 18 years. I’m still learning about HIT but it appears DAO prevents the buildup of histamine in the gut which can occur after several days depending on histamine levels in foods, high protein diet, alcohol, DAO levels and other factors. Some histamine is necessary BUT too much is a huge problem.
So as I understand it, this product is licensed from the original patent holder for DAO, Stada. I ordered the product and have tried it now for 2 months. It does appear to have great therapeutic value as I saw a significant improvement in my symptoms. However, I wasn’t always disciplined (take 10min before each meal, eg) so it’s possible it could even be better. Moreover, when I didn’t take Hist Digest for several days and I consumed a high protein diet, my symptoms returned with vengeance.
I’m currently out of stock so I’ve re-ordered and look forward to updating others on my progress!

Sure it’s expensive and I have to work an extra shift a week to be able to afford it but it’s so worth it to be able to live again!
